Okay. This is huge.
Shawn Christensen (stellastarr) and Kevin McAdams (Elefant) have paired up to produce a song for the Two Blue Wolves Soundtrack. I met up with Shawn this weekend. He said it’s going to be a folk song and nothing like what they’ve done before with either of their bands.
I can not wait to hear this.

Keep an eye out for a book called WHAT IT IS : WHAT IT IS by Paul Maziar. You won’t be seeing it at Barnes & Noble, at least not yet, although you may be able to pick up a copy if you can get tickets to a Cold War Kids show. The book was designed by bassist Matt Maust and is the hottest thing since the invention of paper.
When Paul isn’t writing the next great American novel, he’s downing lemonades with me at Irving Farms where we’ve been plotting to take over the world, one sentence at a time.

Manchester UK DJ Jon Grant is taking a breather in between sets to produce a remix of Alex Parker’s “Missing You Again.” I came into contact with Jon at the In the City Festival last fall where he was spinning between sets at Night & Day. That night, Jon introduced me to The Whip, an electro outfit with a sound reminiscent of Manchester’s earlier days. Listen to their track, “Frustration,” and you’ll see what I mean.
I took this photo of Jon that night.

I’m half Lithuanian on my mother’s side and I had always wondered what it would be like to visit that mysterious corner of the world. I recently had the opportunity on a trip through the Baltics, which took me through Lithuania’s capital city, Vilnius. I immediately fell in love with the people and the culture. It is not “the new Prague” as some might have you believe, but the heart of its own unique national identity.
What I found most fascinating about the city was how young it seemed. There, amidst the ancient architecture and remnants of Soviet occupation, was a new thriving energy in the process of getting to know itself.
It was a city to be lost in. At night, I’d find myself zig-zagging through the alleyways and cobblestone streets, following the waftings of dance beats, to these tiny underground clubs packed with people, and how they reminded me of the parties back at school, and the people I’d known then. And how funny to feel at home halfway around the world. I’d never felt that way before. In London, at times, but not like this.
I took this photo in a strange multi-level park I discovered out in the municipal district. It was like a skatepark, but without the ramps. The place was huge and vacant. The wall, pictured, ran the length of the far end.

British singer-songwriter Ed Laurie will be contributing one of his soulful gems to the Two Blue Wolves soundtrack. Listening to his work you’ll catch hints of Cat Stevens, Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens.

I met with choreographer Eva Schmidt last week to discuss the piece she’s developing for Two Blue Wolves. It will premier in October at Bennington College as part of the school’s 75th Anniversary weekend. We’re still figuring out the programming, but right now it looks like it’ll be a reading followed by the dance performance. Other artists featured on the soundtrack are slated to perform that weekend as well. I’ll let you know as things get sorted out. Not sure if I’ll be DJing that night.
