The Kiss-Off performing Amplify at Europa, Brooklyn 02-08

The Kiss-Off played Europa in Brooklyn last Thursday, premiering their new track “Amplify.” Here’s a low-fi recording I captured at the show:

The Kiss-Off – Amplify (live at Europa, Brooklyn 02-08)

Also playing that night were Big Bang TV and Heavy Jamal. Wythe Marschall of HJ teamed up with Sam Tyndall of the Kiss-Off on the track “Stranger in the Strangest Land” for the upcoming Two Blue Wolves Soundtrack. You can hear the track on the 2BW myspace.

Maja – My new girlfriend

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sparrow @ 11:24 pm

So I have a new girlfriend. She’s the lead singer of The Sounds. Her name is Maja Ivarsson. She has an asymmetrical haircut and tats on her forearms. I’m not really a tat guy, but I’m open to making exceptions, and she’s Swedish, so it makes up for it.

Unfortunately, I had to break the news to Roísín [Murphy], my girlfriend of four weeks or so. Things were really good there for a while. But she was always spending money on costumes and never on me, and it just didn’t feel right. We’re leaving things on good terms, though – as friends. So that’s cool.

Anyway. Maja. Yeah, pretty hot. Unlike bajas, which are not hot, nor should they be worn when it’s hot. Unless you’re at Burning Man.

Here’s a video of the Sounds keeping it post-modern with “Painted By Numbers.”

WHAT IT IS book release party - Paul Maziar / Matt Maust

Paul’s new book, WHAT IT IS : WHAT IT IS, hit the shelves this week. Beautifully photographed and designed by Cold War Kids bassist, Matt Maust, WHAT IT IS could best be described as a stream-of-consciousness graphic novel in the spirit of Jack Kerouac, Henry Miller and Hunter S. Thompson. This episodic collection follows the author through the streets and happenings of modern day New York and LA, training it’s lens on the everyday details to tell a larger story about the great theater of life.

For tour dates and how to buy, visit: http://www.myspace.com/whatitisbook.

Paul read a few excerpts from WHAT IT IS at our reading at the 11th Street Bar in August, and will be making his next appearance at the book release party next Wednesday at Sound Fix Lounge at Bedford & N 11th in Williamsburg. See you then.

Heavy Rotation – February

Calvin Harris / The Girls

Pioneer To The Falls / Interpol
Hounds Of Love / Kate Bush
Don’t Explain / Cat Power
Doot-Doot / Freur
Girl Of An Age / EMF
Green Gloves / The National
Object of My Affection / Peter Bjorn & John
Save Your Love For Me / Quinn Walker
Blinded By The Lights / The Streets
Merry Making At My Place / Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris is a new found fave. I have his videos on repeat at the moment. One of my favorites is featured here, along with his quintessential party track in this month’s list. Not bad for a guy who makes his music on an ancient Amiga computer.
