Exciting news about Nathan’s new movie, Moon, based on the story by Duncan Jones (Zowie Bowie), the film’s director.

Here’s an article from Screen International:

Sci-fi feature Moon has just wrapped principal photography at the UK’s Shepperton Studios.

The film, which marks the feature directorial debut of Duncan Jones (formerly known as Zowie Bowie), stars Sam Rockwell.

Moon is being made through London-based production outfit Liberty Films. The producers are Stuart Fenegan, Nicky Moss and Trudie Styler, whose Xingu Films is co-producing.

Liberty financed the development of the project and raised much of the equity in the film before Limelight came on board as majority financier. UK-based sales company Independent will be handling international sales.

The film is set in the near future, and follows the story of a man isolated on a moon base, who is lonely but not alone.

There is already strong distributor interest in Moon. Jones, who is musician David Bowie’s son, already had an established career directing well-received commercials (also made through Liberty) for such brands as French Connection and Heinz.

“Silent Running, Alien and Outland were three of the touchstones for the film,” Jones commented of the influence of classic ’70s sci-fi on Moon.

Jones wrote the original story and Liberty then hired Nathan Parker to write the screenplay. Jones and Parker are both represented by Independent Talent Group (formerly ICM London).

“Duncan Jones is a very exciting director who brings with him a wealth of experience from his award winning commercials background. His hip visual style coupled with the sci-fi and thriller story will appeal to mainstream audiences everywhere,” said Abigail Walsh of Independent. “Moon is also more than just a sci-fi film; it also has an intelligent and warm heart personified by the extremely versatile and magnetic Sam Rockwell.”

I know her better than she knows herself

So I got back together with Róisín. She kept serenading me outside the flat in London, so I finally caved and took her back. Here’s one of those illustrious performances.

As you can see, she started too draw a crowd. As always. So I shouted down and told her to bring her ass inside. So she did. Then, the next thing I know, there’s a whole video team trooping up behind her. To film this:

What can I say? I’m a sucker for leotards and ankle socks.

Song / The Perfect Thing is Never Perfect

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sparrow @ 12:49 pm

Here’s a new song I wrote.

The Perfect Thing is Never Perfect
Lyrics by Sparrow Hall

You know there is a reason for it
That we’re hurt by the ones we love most
You know there is no reason for it
That we fear the things we need most

The trees can teach us all a lesson
Of how it feels to be reborn
To grow in the wake of each disaster
To sing for the things that we mourn

Because what would we do without the heartbreak
If all that we had wasn’t at stake
What would we do without the heartbreak
What would we do
What would we do

And how would we feel without the heartache
If we had nothing to give or to forsake
How would we feel without the heartache
How would we feel
How would we feel

Turn on your phone and check your message
You know they never meant to hurt you
Look around, sift through the wreckage
It’s the only thing you can do

The perfect thing is never perfect
It’s a statue made of thin glass
Sometimes you just can’t protect it
Sometimes it isn’t meant to last

Don’t be scared to breakdown
And take down
The things that you love most
You can find a new beginning
In the wake of an old ghost

Simian Mobile Disco - I Believe

New favorite video. “I Believe” from Simian Mobile Disco – or The-Artist-Formerly-Know-As-Simian. I’m not sure in which one of the “Stans” they shot this, but lets give it up for a casting director working on the fly.

How happy am I that these guys didn’t abandon their synthesizers?

Heavy Rotation – March

Heay Jamal Poster

Amplify / The Kiss-Off
Flume / Bon Iver
Altar of the Dead / Heavy Jamal
Long Summer Days / EMF
Trash / The Whip
Smalltown Boy / Bronski Beat
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye / Soft Cell
Moral Kiosk / REM
Flying Foxes / Moby
You Take Me Up / Thompson Twins

If DJ Run had chosen to become a history professor instead of a man of the cloth, he might have found himself preaching something along the lines of Heavy Jamal. The brainchild of hip hop MC Wythe Marschall and Scott Neagle (of Big Bang TV), Heavy Jamal is what happens when rappers get their read on. A marriage of quirky samples and rhythmic flow, HJ’s new EP, Devil & the Mangoose Present: Heavy Jamal, is the kind of music Henry James would listen to as he kicked back in an opium den.
