Breaking Upwards: Open Relationships Always Seem So Evolved
Oh good, yet another movie that’s going to make me want to blow my brains out.
At least it’ll be funny.

There’s a blog I just discovered called Apocalypstick. It’s written by a smarty pants girl named Almie Rose. And here are the reasons why you should read it:
The list of songs she cries to
Her rant about a parking ticket and what neighborhood in LA they should burn down
Oh, and one other thing—this video she posted, answering questions from her readers. Wait for her impression of Björk singing Happy Birthday.

I know what you think of Air Supply, but listen to these acoustic takes recorded at Graham Russell’s home studio in 2005. Just to give you a timeframe – both songs were written and recorded by the band over 30 years ago.
Power couples are basically what superheroes would be if they spent all their time lying around spacious apartments sharing copies of the New York Times and deliberating over where to get brunch. Whenever I see a power couple I always want them to stand on each others’ shoulders and meld into one super tall, well-dressed, god-creature. So of course you can imagine my delight when I came across a whole article on VanityFair.com dedicated to these perfect-seeming pairs. I especially liked the piece on entertainers/activists Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, who make up for the obnoxiousness of at least 5 other power couples.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher – Because what student never had a thing for his teacher. Or vice versa.

Sam Shephard and Jessica Lange – Jessica please tell Sam to stop taking roles as earnest war-torn veterans and write another play about hot couples fighting.
Here’s a band I was just introduced to: The Antlers from Brooklyn, NY. Their album: Hospice—cheery, I know. But look past that for a second and listen to one song in particular.
“Kettering” reads like a quiet letter to the past. The smell of smoke on a cool summer night. A porch of empty rocking chairs. The song is carried by the sound of a lone piano played in a cavernous, crumbling ballroom. You’ll hear the edgings of Antony & the Johnsons, and the soaring drama of DeVotchka’s “How It Ends.” But there is also the sound of a secret held close, and that is what gives the song its true identity and force.
You can listen to “Kettering” on The Antlers’ myspace and buy it on iTunes. And, if you like what you hear, you can try catching them on their current tour through the US, UK and Europe. For dates, visit their myspace.
Cueing up more music for spring… Next up: brand new London-based electro pop twosome VISITOR. If all the characters of The Neverending Story grew up and started a band, it would sound something like this. Huge synthesizers, big clean beats and soaring melodies.
There’s a great write-up about them on ArjanWrites and a free download of “Los Feeling” on his Facebook Page.
I played the track at a party last weekend and it was a huge hit. Nice work boys. Now, can you move your flying dog creature? You’re parking me in.
