Sparrow Hall is a former Alzheimer’s caregiver who has lost three members of his family to the disease. He has committed himself to raising awareness for Alzheimer’s among young people who have yet come face to face with the illness, and the devastating effects it can have on a person’s life and those around them.
Hall’s groundbreaking story “Two Blue Wolves” follows the relationship of a young caregiver and his grandmother, offering a profound meditation on love, memory, and human connection. The book is continued through a collection of music, video, artwork and performances developed by artists from around the world to help raise awareness of the disease and work towards a cure. Collaborators include members of the bands stellastarr*, ArpLine, and Elefant, Grammy Award-winning producer Stuart Sikes, songwriter/performance artist Ana Lola Roman, painter Jim DeLucia, poet Michael Evashevski, and writer/conceptual artist Wythe Marschall, among others.
You can help support the Two Blue Wolves project with the purchase of a book. $1 of every sale is contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association to go towards research and caregiver support.
“Alzheimer’s is a thief that robs us of who we are. It begins by taking our memories, then our independence, then our dignity—wiping away all of the beauty and nuance of our lives, all of the work we’ve done to become the one-of-a-kind human beings we are—leaving us with nothing but a dark, irreparable void.
“We don’t talk about Alzheimer’s, because we’re terrified of it in a way that is unlike any other sickness. Because we associate it with something that is inescapable: growing old. The two, however, are not meant to go hand in hand. Alzheimer’s is a disease like any other, and it must be fought before we begin to forget.
“Imagine the stories you reminisce about with your friends, your children, your partner. Those are the stories that shape you. Now, imagine what you would be without them. This is not just a search for a cure. This is about preserving our lives and our love.”
